We will report your successful completion directly to the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission (MVC). MVC will directly update your driving record and give you credit for the course. You will receive a “receipt of completion” when you have successfully completed the course. You can print out the “receipt of completion” and give it to your insurance company to receive your insurance discount.

The Course

How long is the defensive driving course?

The course is six (6) hours long, and is presented in the classroom or online.

Insurance Reduction

After completing the defensive driving course, how do I receive the insurance reduction?

How often can I take the defensive driving course?

You may take the course once every 3 years to maintain insurance reduction benefits. You may take the course once every 5 years for point removal

Will the defensive driving course prevent my insurance company from raising my premiums?

No. Insurance reduction does not prevent general premium increases.

If you need to verify the course completion has been entered on your record, you may request a copy of your driving record from the Motor Vehicle Commission.
